An elementary school assignment for Gloria was to bring
her favorite book to school, which was Wild Animals
of the World by
William Bridges and illustrated by Mary Baker. That 1954
edition is still in her possession along with Gloria's
unwavering enthusiasm for wildlife.
While Mary Baker was her first inspiration of wildlife
illustrators, Gloria is indebted to the Beartooth School in
Montana which provided some of the finest wildlife artists
workshops and wildlife artist camaraderie. In San Diego, her
mentors are wildlife artist Gamini Ratnavira and
western/landscape artist Jack Jordan. Both gentlemen have
been supportive by providing honest critique and guidance.

As a San Diego native, the opportunities to sketch various
wildlife at the world famous zoo has been a treasure. In
fact, she won the Starbuck's/San Diego Zoo Art Contest
producing a flamingo tumbler and debit card that generated funds
for the Zoological Society and is today one of the most popular
Starbuck's collector cards.
Gloria has partnered with Sky Hunters, a local organization,
to
educate the public and artists about predators. While she
teaches the art class using the live birds, the handler
provides the bird education to the audience and painters.
One of her wildlife paintings appeared in the Tom Hanks movie "Ladykillers".
Gloria has participated, and won, many awards in juried shows,
the latest award being Best of Exhibition 2007 at the Lancaster
Museum/Art Gallery Show. Lancaster, CA. Her design won
the El Cajon Historical Society's contest to repaint a historic
hotel in downtown El Cajon, CA.
She recently held a one woman show at the Heritage of the
Americas Museum in Rancho San Diego, CA. Eleven of her
original art was sold at this event and stimulated Cuyamaca
Community College to secure a copy of a painting to grace the
cover of their Community Learning "Preview" magazine.
She
She is a part-time Registered Nurse in psychiatry, studying
animal behavior and depicting those behaviors is quite
refreshing.
